Earth Friendly Eyeglass Frames

Earth Friendly Eyeglass Frames

Today is Earth Day, so we felt compelled to share some fitting news. It’s refreshing that manufacturing companies are inspired by nature while designing products. Many are even taking the initiative to make a difference in the way production is done. Some eyeglass brands are turning to natural materials to develop products. Brands like Austere Wear, TruWood and Baxter Blue are catering to this market.

Austere Wear, a new upcoming stylish brand, uses woodworking. They use zebrawood and black walnut wood to create frames. Austere Wear’s founder, who goes by the casual name of Matt, comes from the “land of wood and water” and developed his skill growing up in Jamaica. He came to the US and later teamed up with Brian, a Louisianan with a background in business and health care. With the mission of staying true to their roots, they developed a brand that catered to a high quality, minimalistic look.

Austere Wear isn’t the only brand that is turning to natural materials. Popular sunglasses brand, TruWood, uses resources like rosewood and bamboo to hand make the majority of their frames and watches. TruWood even plants ten trees for every watch they sell.

TruWood developed an organization called The Forest Garden Program, which was developed to help farmers plant trees and plants based on various geographical needs. The program takes farmers through a four year process of learning, designing and managing forest gardens. This brand commits to repaying the environment.

Speaking of giving back to earth: The Australian brand, Baxter Blue, makes blue light protection glasses using biodegradable materials such as wood pulp in the production of bio-acetate.

The common thread between these three brands and our brand Setex, is the effect and inspiration that nature has on us.

Setex was developed while trying to understand  how geckos defy gravity. Our gripping products are designed to bio-mimic a gecko’s toe hairs, called setae. If you’re looking for a solution that will stop your glasses from sliding off your nose, it’s Setex.

Our Setex nose pads each have thousands of microscopic hairs on their surface, which mimic a gecko’s foot fibers. This gives your glasses  a strong grip, even on oily or sweaty skin.

Our engineers have also designed nose pads grips, earbud/AirPod grips, and gaming grips. Our products will keep your glasses from slipping, earbuds from falling out and upgrade your gaming strategy.

Nature-inspired products help provide us with solutions to problems that nature deems as simple. Using the draw of nature, science and technology; brands can develop products that we can use effortlessly. These developments redefine what a great design can be.
