Road Trip to Vision Expo

Road Trip to Vision Expo

With the pandemic more or less under control, we ventured to Vision Expo East in New York March 31 through April 3 - in person - to meet the world of eyewear. From San Juan to Seoul, many of us were eager to break out of our cabin fever and spent four days mingling with hundreds of people from around the globe to talk shop, display our selection of eyeglass nose pads and learn about the latest trends on everything eyewear. And yes, get some insights and feedback on how we’re doing as well. In the best Scooby Doo fashion, we packed our Mystery Machine with our booth, monitor, retail display, collateral materials and lots of product to sample to optometrists, retailers, media, and customers too.

What we showed: our entire product line of eyeglass nose pads. Standard, thick, ultra-thin, kids’s size, clear, black, red, and blue in diverse quantities. In addition, we shared our consumer site setexgrip.com and our newly launched wholesale site for optometrists at setexwholesale.com, where registered optometrists can purchase products in bulk to sell and/or sample to their patients. Finally we also displayed our video loop with our snazzy new video ads.

What we learned: the overall reaction was a big hit. Our patented, gecko-inspired technology, which took about a decade to develop, proved to make quite a splash among optometrists who claim all too often they confront customers returning to their practice shortly after their last visit only to get their eyewear readjusted with nose pads that don’t seem to work. Our Setex nose pads, which last longer and keep a firm grip even on sweaty or oily skin, can be a great solution for these specialists to keep their patients happy and focus on what really matters - their vision.

What we’re doing: given the encouraging feedback and reaction, we’re working on further eyewear related products like temple tips and sleeves for wired frames, also two popular applications that require properly designed grip pads. And that’s just some, surely many more to come.

How we’re doing: equally important than the positive feedback on our technology and product line, we were able to share the news that we continue to be the best selling stick-on nose pad brand on Amazon and this past March was a record month in sales both in Amazon and in our own e-commerce site setexgrip.com.

What’s next: we’re working with a number of influencers, optometrists, ophthalmologists, and OD students to help us promote our tech on social media. We met some at the show and are actively recruiting eyewear professionals and enthusiasts to let the world in on our great tech.

Eyeglasses can slip, slide, or fit uncomfortably resulting in discomfort at best or pain at worst. We are on a mission to keep people’s eyewear in place so they can stay in control. Our visit to Vision Expo East was extremely positive in reassuring us we’re on the right track. We’ll continue the hard work in our best startup fashion. And we’ll be back next year to meet more folks and learn some more. See you next time in New York.
